Birth control: the pill, Evra patch or Nuva ring
If you start on the first day of a period, these methods are effective immediately. If you start at any other time, they are effective after 7 days. However, we recommend using a back-up method such as condoms for the first month.
The pill works all the time, even when you take the sugar pills or during the 7 days off, as long as you don’t miss any pills. If you miss one or more pills, you should use a back-up method like a condom until your next pack.
The patch and ring are also effective in preventing pregnancy during the week you are not using them.
No. None of the methods of birth control have any long-term effects on fertility. However, sometimes periods can be delayed after stopping the pill or Depo-Provera injections.
Some women choose to miss the occasional period by not taking a break or by skipping the sugar pills and starting the next pack right away. There is no harm in doing this, and you are still protected from pregnancy, but if you are late with pills you may be more likely to have breakthrough bleeding.
Yes, as long as you have an up-to-date prescription with us. Let the person know how many packages you want to buy (up to 3 at a time). Birth control can be picked up during these times:

Birth control: The IUD or IUS (hormonal IUS)
At the clinic, getting an IUD/IUS is a 2-step process. At the first appointment counsellors explain the risks and benefits of this method, describe the insertion process and answer any questions. At this time, swabs are done to rule out vaginal infections. The IUD/IUS insertion is done during a period, within the next 3 months.
Emergency contraceptive pill (ECP)
The emergency contraceptive pill, also known as the morning after pill, is a hormonal treatment that reduces the chance of pregnancy if taken within three days after unprotected sex. At this clinic we sell Plan B ad Ella at a reduced price, cash only. Ella is recommended for women over 175 lbs (80 kgs)
You don’t need an appointment but it is best to call the clinic first before you come. We can only provide Plan B or Ella to the client herself.
HIV
An HIV test is most accurate three months after exposure to the virus.( for example, from unprotected sex or sharing needles). You do not need to do an HIV test on a regular basis unless you feel you have been at risk for the virus.
At this clinic we do anonymous HIV testing. Appointments are booked on a first-name basis and the test is done under a number. There are two types of HIV tests available at the clinic. With the rapid point-of-care test, results are available within a few minutes. With the standard blood test, results are ready in one week and you return to the clinic with your number to get your results.
Sexually transmitted Infections (STIs)
There is no single test that can check for all STIs. We offer tests for gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, hepatitis A, B & C, vaginal infections and genital herpes, as well as Pap tests for cervical cancer. All testing is confidential and free of charge.
Results generally take one week, depending on the test. You can get results by phone.
